Name? Dave Vogrin

Birthday? 12/16/70

Current band? Dave’s Planet, 9 years and still going!

How did you end up in Dave's Planet? Another band member referred me.  I auditioned and got the spot.  I
played Foo Fighters – Everlong, Green Day – Basket Case and Dishwalla – Counting Blue Cars.

Other bands you have been in? Mischievous, Shot Band.  Dave’s Planet is only my 3rd band.  I stayed out of
bands till I finished my BSBA at The Ohio State University in 1993.

What instrument do you play? Drums – DW and Zildjian Cymbals but I guess I’d play whoever would like to
sponsor me 

Why did you choose this instrument? My parents were really pushing all of us boys (three of us) to learn an
instrument.  My first was actually a guitar, which only lasted about two months.  Then years later I started
drumming.  Thanks Mom!

Age you started playing? 16

When was your first gig, and were you paid for it? At the Vagabond in Painesville, next to the speedway.  I
think I made $15!

What is your favorite piece of music to perform and why? I have many, but one I can mention is Alive by
Pearl Jam.  It just makes me feel even more optimistic about life in general.  Also, Come Down by Bush.  So
fitting while drumming!

Should Never Be

If you went to hell, what song would be played over and over? Atomic Dog, God I hate even typing it out!

What is your advice to up-and-coming musicians?  Stay with your instrument and don’t get caught up with
only one style of music.  Learn from others as much as you can and remember it’s not always a competition.
Find and do what you do best.  It’s a lifetime commitment if you want to excel.  And you’ll find that it’s worth
it.

Describe yourself in three words: optimistic, fun, understanding
Welcome to Spotlight!
